Privacy Policy
Effective October 31, 2026
- Your photos and videos never leave your device. SORT reads them on your computer and nowhere else.
- No account, no cookies, no analytics, no ads, no tracking.
- The only personal data we ever receive is what you type into the bug report form, if you choose to send one.
Who we are
SORT is made by CDAV.IO. This policy covers the SORT website at sort.cdav.io (also served at sortcdav.netlify.app) and the SORT desktop apps for macOS and Windows.
Your photos stay on your device
To sort your library, SORT reads each file's metadata: the camera model, the time it was taken and, when present, its GPS position. It also makes small preview thumbnails so you can see your photos while they are sorted. All of this happens on your own computer, in your browser or in the desktop app.
- No photo, video, thumbnail, file name or metadata is uploaded, sent or shared, with us or anyone else.
- GPS coordinates are turned into city names with a list built into SORT. No location lookup leaves your machine.
- Copying, moving and renaming happen directly on your disks.
What the website and app store on your device
SORT remembers a few preferences in your browser's local storage, or in the desktop app's own storage. They never leave your device:
sort-lang: the language you pickedsort-theme: light or darksort-release: the latest version number, kept for six hours so the page does not have to ask GitHub againsort-autoupdandsort-skip-update: your update settings in the desktop app
The website also keeps a copy of itself in your browser so it can open offline. You can clear all of this at any time in your browser settings. SORT sets no cookies.
Services SORT talks to
- Netlify hosts the website. As with any web host, Netlify's servers handle your IP address and browser details to deliver the pages and protect against abuse. See Netlify's privacy policy.
- GitHub hosts the downloads. The website and the desktop app ask GitHub which version is the newest, and installers and updates download from GitHub. GitHub receives your IP address for these requests. You can turn automatic update checks off in the app's Settings. See GitHub's privacy statement.
No other service is contacted. The fonts and images are built into SORT itself.
Bug reports
If you use Report a bug, the form sends what you type: your name, your email, your phone number if you add one, your message, and the SORT version you use. We use it only to understand the problem and write back to you. The form is processed and stored by Netlify Forms. We keep a report only as long as we need it to fix the problem and answer you, then delete it. We never sell it, share it or use it for marketing.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete anything you sent us in a bug report, or object to how we use it. Send the request through the report form and we will answer within 30 days. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
SORT is a general tool and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Since it collects nothing unless a report is sent, there is nothing to collect.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new effective date.
